What determines soil fertility?
By soil fertility we mean how suitable it is for growing various agricultural crops. If grown on a specific soil plants give a good harvest without additional fertilizers, the soil is considered fertile.

Usually fertile soils are formed in the steppes and forest-steppe. Here in the soil there is a high content of humus, which constitutes the main organic matter of the soil, that is, is the main criterion of fertility.

Soil fertility is primarily its ability to meet the needs of plants for mineral nutrients, which the plant needs for successful growth and development. But the mineral composition of the soil, in turn, depends on the stability of the ecosystem in which it is included. So the ecosystem of the meadow implies a huge amount of organic plant remains at the end of each season, which are very quickly processed by microorganisms that live in the surface layer of the soil. As a result, very fertile soils are formed, rich in a wide variety of substances. In a global sense, soil fertility will depend on the climate of the natural zone, on the availability of groundwater, on temperature, on the amount of precipitation, the duration of winter and summer, and on the characteristics of the soil.
Soil fertility depends on the presence of organic matter and humus in its composition. The thicker the humus layer, the higher the soil fertility. The most fertile soils are in the Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh regions.
